KARO JATAN JE HOE MEHARWANA

LEKH 7

When the Lord is merciful we become resourceful 562

This quotation from Gurbani has two aspects:-

1. ‘...become resourceful’ and
2. ‘...is merciful’

To clarify the deep seated meaning of ‘become resourceful’ some view are put being forward here.

The sun has all along been the source of sunlight and ever since the beginning the radiation from the sun has been spontaneously taking place.

As such, this ‘light’

is a divine gift

is limitless

is boundless

is constant
is for all times

is spontaneous
is the source of warmth

is comfort giving

is the gift of life

is the source of light

is the destroyer of darkness

is without discrimination

is pure

is omnipresent
Lekh7 2

For the sunlight to come into being we:

didn’t think about
didn’t plan for it
didn’t request for it
didn’t make any effort
didn’t pay for it

When ever we move away from the divine virtues of this sunlight, it is not the fault of the ‘sunlight’ or the source of sunlight the ‘sun’.

When we, for whatever the reason may be, move away from the sunlight, we divorce ourselves from the virtues of this sunlight. When we move back into the sunlight again, we once again begin to enjoy the comfort giving warmth and light.

To come out of darkness and present ourselves before sunlight is us, being in a ‘resourceful state’.

When we live in the presence or remembrance of the Infinite Lord, then we spontaneously receive all the divine gifts or virtues of the Infinite Lord and unknowingly we enjoy the warmth and the bliss of the divine presence.

On the contrary, when our mind divorces itself from its source the ‘Infinite Lord’ and lives in a state of forgetfulness, then we distance ourselves from all the divine gifts or virtues and because of the darkness of worldly doubts, we suffer pain and anguish.

2.1 Forgetting the Transcendent Lord, all sorts of illnesses are contracted. Those who turn their backs on the Lord shall be separated from Him and consigned to reincarnation, over and over again. 135 M5L5

2.2 One who forgets the Primal Lord, the Architect of karma, wanders around burning, and remains tormented. No one can save such an ungrateful person; he is thrown into the most horrible hell. 1086M5L5

2.3 One who forgets the Lord’s Name, suffers in pain. 212M5L1

Thus the ‘joy of experiencing this light’ or being ‘divorced’ from it is the result of our initial ‘effort’ or ‘resourceful state’ or put it this way, the ‘secret key’ to divine light is ‘Naam Simran’. In other words, the ‘remembrance’ of the Infinite Lord or

Lekh7 3

‘simran’ is the only divine key to the treasury of divine gifts or virtues of the manifestation of ‘Naam’.

3.1 O dear beloved mind, my friend, chanting the Lord’s Name, the Divine Light shines within. 79M5L19

3.2 Meditating in remembrance on Him, all pain is dispelled. All pleasures come to dwell in the mind. 1148M5L7

3.3 When He comes to mind, I find the home of peace and poise. 1141M5L8

But there is need here to unfold a secret that is profound and necessary.

Under the influence of ego, the religious practices or rituals committed in this worldly life are our

efforts - not results
discipline - not fulfillment
journey - not destination
knowledge- not illumination
toil - not Guru’s Blessings
steps - not the peak
classes - not the degree
deeds - not results
fruits - not the taste
flowers - not the scent
bulb - not the light

3.4 The Lord has kept the gift in His hands. He gives it to whom ever He pleases. 604

3.5 This is the cup of love of my Lord and Master; He gives it as He chooses. 947 M3L16

But we are so immersed in our ego -ridden worldly miracles that we have totally forgotten our benevolent - benefactor, the Lord, and regard our ego-ridden ‘efforts’ to be the results or ‘fruits’.
3.6 As long as his mind is disturbed by waves, he is caught in ego and egotistical pride. He does not find the taste of the Shabad, and he does not embrace love for the Name. His service is not accepted; worrying and worrying, he wastes away in misery. 1147M3L14

Lekh7 4

Actually this fruit is a divine gift, that is received directly from the Satguru. In this there is no interference or force exerted by our ego-ridden selves. This is simply the Grace of the Guru.

4.1 No power to beg, no power to give. 7M1L9

4.2 All Truth, all austere discipline, all goodness, all the great miraculous spiritual powers of the Siddhas—without You, no one has attained such powers. They are received only by Your Grace. 9M1L13

4.3 The Gift is in the Hands of the Great Giver. At the Guru’s Door, in the Gurdwara, it is received. 33M3L4

When parents are blessed with children, then they begin to think and plan for their children’s upbringing, happiness, education, marriage, livelihood etc. and all their life they shower them with virtuous - wishes and blessings. It has been seen that even before the birth of a child, the mother gets ready the feeding bottle and the napkins. It can be concluded from this that with the conception of a child within the womb, thoughts of goodwill and care arise in the mother’s heart. This means that simultaneously with the ‘creation’ of a being, according to the divine law of the Infinite Lord, all the preparations for the goodwill of the being are already automatically under way. In this way the ‘in laid’ or built in law for the being’s creation, development and sustenance is manifesting itself totally, without fail and spontaneously.

4.4 He who fashioned, adorned and decorated you — in the fire of the womb, He preserved you. In your infancy, He gave you milk to drink. In the flower of your youth, He gave you food, pleasure and understanding. As you grow old, family and friends are there to feed you as you rest.
This worthless person has not appreciated in the least, all the good deeds done for him. 266M5L18

Like the seed of a plant, the complete ‘blueprint’or law for its germination, growth and its decay are all ‘in-laid’ or in-built within it.

This ‘inlaid’ or in built hukam or law is not only enough for a beings worldly life and its goodwill, but it is beneficial for his spiritual life as well. It encourages and leads one towards his ‘own home within’, thus enabling him to unravel the ‘in laid hukam’ and learn to live according to its ‘divine will’.

Lekh7 5

If ‘man’ suffers pain and anguish in this world, the reason is that he has forgotten his Divine Father - Mother, the creator. He has stepped out of the will of the ‘in-laid’ blueprint or hukam and runs his affairs according to his own will that is supported by his own ego and intelligence.

5.1 He who walks according to his own will O brother is separated from the Lord and bears blows. 601M3

5.2 Tell me who has ever obtained peace by walking according to his
own will? The blind mad does blind deeds.1287

The essential point is that for each and every being this in-laid or in built blueprint or hukam is

the aim of life
one’s very own discipline
the perfect divine law
source of worldly comfort
deliverance into the world hereafter
the innate seed
one that sprouts from within
diffused imperceptably
all encompassing
free from external rituals
above rites and rituals
beyond the grasp of intelligence
blessing
beyond deciphering
beyond all limits
faultless

As an analogy, within the seeds of all plant life, according to the ‘in-laid blueprint or law’ each and every plant germinates, grows, flourishes and bears fruits but there are differences in the size, colour, taste, age, leaves and fruits. In the rest of the 8,400,000 forms of life, because of their limited consciousness, they cannot utilise their intelligence, schemes or maxims. For this reason

Lekh7 6

spontaneously and unconsciously they operate according to their in-laid law’ or blueprint. These 8,400,000 life forms, while living their lives according to the will of the in-laid law or blueprint, unconsciously, are progressing towards their center- the Almighty Lord- and completing their life’s journey. Spontaneously the evolution of their souls is also taking place. This is their innate, in built, in-laid personal religion. They do not need any external religions or faiths for their evolution and neither do they need any preaching. These life forms are unconsciously cultivating their own ‘personal self enhancement or religion’ according to the divine, unseen, absolute, unerring flow of the ‘predestined Will’.

These life forms are neither Hindus nor Muslims, Christians or Jews. Within the ambit of their Creators Grace they are unconsciously cultivating their own personal ‘self enhancement’ or the Divine Command.

Man, according to his razor sharp intelligence is so engrossed in the research and the relish of the miracles of the ‘bewitching worldliness’ that
he has totally forgotten the creator and His in-laid law or blueprint.

Instead of moving according to the ‘in-laid law’ man is making the wrong and unjustified use of his sharp intelligence and the ‘mental freedom’, thus making him suffer the consequences of (the law of karma) ‘what I do, so shall I reap and (unaware of this) he puts the blame on God or others. In this way he is cheating himself and is being carried away to hell.

Human beings have forgotten the creator. The have become ignorant and disregardful. For this reason ‘by divorcing (from God man ) suffers blows’ and faces degeneration.

Therefore, especially for the human life form-

1. To bring about the remembrance of the presence of the Lord,
the Divine ‘father-mother’

2. To teach the lesson of ‘living according to the Divine Will’

3. To encourage the returning into the warm and peaceful
bosom of the Lord, the Divine Father-Mother,

Lekh7 7

from time to time, according to the need, various religions or faiths came into being.

In this way, the Infinite Lord Wahiguru, from the very beginning brought into being gurus, avtars, sadhus, evolved souls and Gurmukhs into the world from time to time. (These God’s messengers) introduced their own religions according to needs of their times and gave ‘mankind’ direction towards leading a ‘religious life’. In this whole Divine Scheme lies the proof of God’s benovelent goodwill towards his siblings or children - the human beings.

7.1 He pull us out from the blind well of worldliness. It is through love-worship that we is saved. The Lord Himself comes in the form of a holy saint, from the great fire the Lord Himself saves man. 1005M5

But this external religion, with its rites and rituals, can only be

studied or taught
understood or explained
read or be read
acquired
cultivated
toiled for

with the external mind, intelligence and the physical body which in turn can only take the being to the limits of the boundary of this world of materialism.

All the above discourse is limited to a state of ‘being in a resourceful state’.
Now let us make an in-depth study about ‘being merciful or compassionate’.
‘Being resourceful’ is the novel play of the ‘realm of grace’ that is purely spiritual blessing, guru’s compassion and Divine Grace.

It has been explained earlier, that on conception of a child, thoughts, plans and schemes begin to develop in the mother’s heart about the child’s goodwill, upbringing, growth etc. well ahead ( of the child’s birth).

In the same way being the children of Waheguru, when our Divine Mother, Waheguru, created the universe in a moment of joy through the ‘Word’

Lekh7 8

then together with it a perfect, complete, unerring and permanent Divine Law was enacted for the benefit , the upbringing and the growth of the beings in the creation.

Other than the human form of life, all other life forms are leading their lives unconsciously, unknowingly and spontaneously (in harmony with) with this peaceful and emancipating Divine Law.

The Infinite Lord made man in ‘His Own Image’, blessed him with the power of ‘freedom of thought’ and put at his disposal profound intelligence.

The ego-ridden man, entangled in the charming glimmer of worldliness, misusing the valuable gifts of ‘freedom of thought’ and ‘profound intelligence’ finds himself divorced from the beautitude law and the ‘warm bosom’ of the Infinite Lord, and according to (Gurbani) ‘those who manage their affairs through their own self will O, brother, will separate and suffer blows’ and experience pain.

When someone’s child gets lost, the parents suffer and wreath in pain because of love for their child. To find their child they advertise in the newspapers and make announcements over the radio that if someone can give information or find their child, that person will be given a reward.

In the same way when a person, because of the illusion of worldliness, forget his Lord Waheguru and turns his back towards Him, then the ‘forever forgiving and merciful’ Infinite Creator Waheguru feels pain for His prodigal sons. Therefore to save the countless souls lost in the worldliness from the ‘terrible ocean of grief’ of materialism, He sent gurus, avtars, sadhus, saints, God’s slaves and beloved gurmukhs into the world. Accordingly they introduced many different types of religions and faiths and left their different compositions for our benefit and guidance.

8.1 The Great Perfect Guru imparts instructions. The Great
True Guru is magnanimous to all. 96

8.2 O my friend come into my home. The Lord Himself has
warded off your enemies and your calamity is past. 678 M5

Lekh7 9

9.1 Your Saints are the Saving Grace of the world; beholding the
Blessed Vision of their Darshan, I remain satisfied. 373M5l4

9.2 God’s Holy people are the saviors of the world; I grab hold of the hem of their robes. 811M5L1

If a lost soul or seeker receives help in aligning himself blissful ‘own home’ (within himself) then the beloved gurmukh who initiates this, he too receives the blessings of the Satguru.

9.3 Servant Nanak begs for the dust of the feet of that GurSikh, who himself chants the Naam, and inspires others to chant it 306M4L2

9.1 I am a sacrifice to those gursikhs who spread the teachings of the Guru and unite the sikh with the Guru. Bhai Gurdas 12/6

For the emancipation of gursikhs, Guru Nanak had to assume 10 births and by His grace, he connected us with ‘Gurbani’. Whatever Gurbani paath, kirtan or discourse (katha) that is taking place, is happening by the mercy and grace of the Satguru for the emancipation of the lost or turned off souls. In this scientific age, this gift of Gurbani is being spontaneously relayed over the radio, T.V., tape recorders and speakers even as we sit at home, walk about or sleep.

But in spite of all these facilities we have been unable to take advantage of these blessings. Instead out of negligence, ignorance or worldly illusion we are misusing them. This has caused our life-style to deteriorate even more. The reason for this is clear - that our attitude or approach towards godliness or religion is -

misguided
superfluous
imperfect

In other words, along the path of godliness, if there is a delay or blame, then there can only be a short coming in the practice or cultivation of the Satguru’s command - be in a ‘resourceful state’. Satguru’s grace like the sunshine, is forever flowing, forever compassionate, unerring, eternal and is consistently functioning.

Lekh7 10

10.1 Forever, forever and ever, He is merciful. 275M5L9

10.2 The True Lord and Master is forever merciful and forgiving 619M5L18
10.3 You are always forgiving, and always merciful; You give support to all. 713M5L18

10.4 The Guru is merciful, and always forgiving. 1074M5L19

10.5 O Nanak, my Beloved is forever Merciful; out of millions, hardly
anyone realizes Him.
1278M5L6
Our approach is to ‘present ourselves’ or go ‘into the presence’ of the Satguru filled with faith, belief and love.
The Satguru on the other hand through his grace, continuously keeps showering abundant and inexhaustible gifts.

10.6 Slowly, gently, drop by drop, the stream of nectar trickles down within. The mind drinks it in, hearing and reflecting on the Word of the Shabad. 102M5L5
10.7 You are the True Giver; You give continually. 150 M2 L12
10.8 You bestow Your gifts, even when we do not ask for them, O Great Giver; devotion to You is a treasure over-flowing. 437M1L6
You are the Merciful Giver, above the heads of all. Day and night, You give
gifts, and take care of all. 1013M1L19
10.9 My True Guru is forever the Giver. I receive whatever fruits and rewards I desire. 133M3L16
Affection-adoration-love is the manifestation of the infinite Waheguru just as ‘sunshine’ is the manifestation of the sun. That is why Waheguru is referred to in the Bani with words such as ‘the essence of affection’, ‘the Being of love’, ‘darling’.

10.11 He is so dear to me; He fascinates my mind; the Lord is the ornament of my
heart, the support of the breath of life. 542M5L15
10.12 My Beloved is the Lover of Love. 1306M5L14

10.13 I would cross the oceans, mountains, wilderness, forests and the nine
regions of the earth in a single step, O Musan, for the Love of my Beloved. 1364M5L1
It is important to remember that we ‘beings’ are Waheguru’s children and the splint or ray of divine affection, adoration and love is within us.

10.14 Says Kabeer, this is formed of the same essence as the Lord. 871 Kb.L7

Lekh7 11

It is through the manifestation and operation of adoration - love that fulfillment of love takes place.

That is why Waheguru, created this creation as an expression of the fulfillment of His abundant love, and placed in it the ‘splint’ or ‘essence’ of His divine love, so that He can love His children or beings and His children can respond to the divine love of their ‘Spiritual Mother’ and be infected with the fulfillment of Divine adoration and love.

Affection-adoration and love is the Cosmic attraction of this love. With this love, every particle of the creation, as a response to the Divine love from their Spiritual Mother for the children; is being automatically attracted by some subtle, unenforced, unseen, unerring Divine Pull. Ever since the ages began the whole creation has been inter-linked and operating within this divine flow on the strength of this Divine Pull.

The ‘love link’ of this Divine pull is called the ‘Naam’ or ‘Word’ and its ‘automatic’. ‘spontaneous flow’ is called the ‘hukam’ (or divine law). This hukam is in the form of a ‘life force’ which is eternally flowing in every particle of the creation and keeps it stable. The ‘feeling of adoration’ that arises from this ‘love link’, ‘love-infection’ or Naam is in fact the grace. Of Waheguru.

But our ego ridden mind with the intellect blessed by Waheguru is deeply steeped in schemes, maxims, cunning etc. and runs its affairs according to its own will. Separated from the ‘in-laid hukum’, he breaks off from the ‘love-link’. In this way he remains divorced from the warmth and love, peace and grace, of the Divine mother.

When there is a fault in the electrical wire, the bulb goes off and we have to suffer knocks in the darkness. In the same way if the innate links of our mind’s consciousness breaks away from Waheguru’s Naam, hukum or command or life current, then the darkness of ignorance looms over our mind and we suffer knocks in the doubts and fallacies of egotism and suffer pain and anguish.

For instance if we move away from the ‘sunlight’ of the ‘sun’ and hide in some underground shelter or cave, we divorce ourselves from the warm light of the sun and in the darkness we suffer difficulties.

Lekh7 12

If we want to enjoy the love of the warm bosom of our divine ‘mother’, then it is mandatory (a must) to go within the self and through the connection of word consciousness, attune with the innate divine ‘law’, Naam or life current.

Or put it this way, if we want to come out of this darkness of delusion, then we have to come out of the dark cell of egotism and appear into the illumination or sunlight of the Naam like sun.

In other words we have to turn our backs towards ‘maya’ and let the inclination of the mind face the ‘Divine Sun’ that is the Infinite Lord. The prodigal mind has to be brought into the presence of the Guru. This move is called ‘taking shelter in the holy feet’ of the Guru.

12.1 Let us take to His Sanctuary and obey Him, and be happy with whatever He
does. 457 M5 L10

12.2 Prays Nanak, I meditate on the Lord’s lotus feet, and grasp the protection of the Lord of the Universe, the merciful, the ocean of kindness. 456 M5 L17

12.3 As sunmukh, his soul abides with the Guru. Within his heart, he meditates on the lotus feet of the Guru; deep within his soul, he contemplates Him.
Renouncing selfishness and conceit, he remains always on the side of the Guru;
He does not know anyone except the Guru. Says Nanak, listen, O Saints: such a Sikh turns toward the Guru with sincere faith, and becomes sunmukh.
919 M3 L18
12.4 If you take one step towards the Guru, the Satguru takes a million steps to receive him. Bh. Gur. Kabit 111

This for us is ‘being resourceful’.

Every moment day and night nay the whole life, we are absorbed in some kind of work but all our involvement or ‘resourcefulness’ is spent in the slavery of worldliness or maya.

12.5 You continually yearn for Maya, and you never chant the Lord’s Praises with your mouth. 893 M5Ll

12.6 He works for the sake of Maya, but he never places his feet on the right path. 1151 M5 L15

12.7. For the sake of Maya, the mortal works very hard. 1252 Bh.Nam. L12

Lekh7 13
Only the rare one inclines towards Godliness and is ‘resourceful’ or makes an effort for the sake of religion.

13.1 How rare are those who are found to love their Beloved Lord. 966 M5L3

13.2 All of his conflicts are extensions of his corruption. How rare is that person
who takes the Naam as his Support. 1145M5L3

13.3 Rare are those who thread the path of the Guru’s teachings V.Bh.G 28/20

Those who are religiously inclined do make an effort or are resourceful, but that effort soon becomes superficial, imperfect, wrong, empty or has been reduced to the level of rites and rituals.

13.4 : Religious rituals are all just entanglements; bad and good are bound up with them. 551 M4L3

13.5 The religious rites, rituals and hypocrisies which are seen, are plundered by the Messenger of Death, the ultimate tax collector. 747 M5L15

13.6 Millions of rites, religious rites, millions of yogic postures and the reading of millions of religious texts, By projecting oneself (as one who has done all this) all has gone to waste as not one bit of what one has done will be of any asistance. Bh G 27/18

Our duty or resourcefulness is in understanding, dichypering and cultivating the teachings of Gurbani.

Benovelance’ or blessings of the Satguru is taking place spontaneously and without fail and will continue to take place just like the sunshine from the sun.

To cultivation the state of ‘being resourceful’, Gurbani leads us on, encourages us and help us in the following way :-

13.7 Nothing else will work. Join the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy; vibrate and meditate on the Jewel of the Naam. 12 M1 L6

13.8 O Siblings of Destiny, chant the Lord’s Name, and focus your consciousness on Him. Take the Merchandise of the Lord’s Praises with you. Your Husband Lord shall see this and approve. 22 M1L19

13.9 O my mind, meditate on the Name of the Lord, Har, Har. Always keep the Company of the Holy, and focus your consciousness on the Feet of the Guru. 47M5L16

13.10 Give up your cleverness, good people — remember the Lord God, your King! Enshrine in your heart, your hopes in the One Lord. O Nanak, your pain, doubt and fear shall depart. 281M5L2
Lekh7 14

14.1 O friends, O Saints, make this your work. Renounce everything else, and chant the Name of the Lord.290M5L3

14.2 Those efforts, by which emancipation may be attained — those efforts are made in the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy.259M5L6

14.3 Make the effort, O very fortunate ones, and meditate on the Lord, the Lord King. O Nanak, remembering Him in meditation, you shall obtain total peace, and your pains and troubles and doubts shall depart.456M5L7

14.4 Singing the Kirtan of the Lord’s Praises in the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, is the highest of all actions.642M5L7

14.5 Join the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, and meditate in remembrance on the Lord; even a sinner like yourself will become pure.631M9L11

14.6 The Guru has blessed servant Nanak with this understanding, that by meditating on the Lord, we cross over the terrifying world-ocean.670M4L3

14.7 Servant Nanak speaks: night and day, chant the Lord’s Name, O Saints; this is the only true hope for emancipation.860M4L13

14.8 Chant the Naam, the Name of the Lord, O mortals, and you shall surely be carried across. Bh.Kab. 1349 L18

LEKH NUMBER-6(RAAG NAAD DHUNNI)

LEKH 6 ‘RAAG-NAADH-DHUNEE’

1.1 You created the vast expanse of the Universe with One Word!
Hundreds of thousands of rivers began to flow. 3M1L16

1.2 From the True Lord came the air, and from the air came water.
From water, He created the three worlds; in each and every heart He has infused His Light. 19 M1L18

1.3 With one word the Lord created this creation and within that creation further expansion took place V.Bh.G.8/1

1.4 From the one creator emerged the sound current (the word) through which the creation came into being V.Bh.G.26/2

This voice, light, infinite sound-current or ‘word’ has not gone faint and disappeared, instead it is continuously inter-twined with the whole creation.
Its resonance neither decreases or increases. The only need is to experience it.

1.5 Let spiritual wisdom be your food, and compassion your attendant. The Sound-current of the Naad vibrates in each and every heart. 6 M1L17

1.6 (The Lord) does not diminish nor does He expand. Neither does He become less nor more. (Akaal Ustat P.10)

In Gurbani this limitless sound current is referred to as the ‘Naam’, ‘Word’, ‘Truth’, ‘Command’, ‘Life-current’. This ‘limitless sound current’ is so powerful that the visible and the invisible world’s total nurturing, growth and destruction depends entirely on it.

1.7 Creation and destruction happen through the Word of the Shabad. Through the Shabad, creation happens again. . 117 M3L1

1.8 By His Order, the world was created; by His Order, it shall merge again into Him. 277 M5L1

1.9 Naam is the Support of all creatures. The Naam is the Support of the earth and solar systems. 284m5L8

L6.2

2.1 The Naam is the Support of the Simritees, the Vedas and the Puraanas.
The Naam is the Support by which we hear of spiritual wisdom and meditation.
The Naam is the Support of the Akaashic ethers and the nether regions.
The Naam is the Support of all bodies.
The Naam is the Support of all worlds and realms.
Associating with the Naam, listening to it with the ears, one is saved. 284 M5L8

This ‘divine music’ that is resounding in every heart is referred to as

limitless sound
limitless word
limitless music
limitless orchestral trill (jingling)
sound of unceasing vibrations
sound vibrations of the Word
sound of 5 musical instruments
[1.string (sitar),2. skin (tabla) 3. metallic (channay) 4. sound emitted from hollow vessels.5. wind (harmonium)
pure sound vibration
incessant celestial music
spontaneous sound current

etc. This is the ‘language of ‘The One Word’ which every tiny particle of the whole creation speaks out thus ‘infinite-infinite, says the forests and plants’.

2.2 Within all hearts, the Lord speaks, the Lord speaks. Who else speaks, other than the Lord? 988Bh.Namdev L16

2.3 The sparrow-hawks and the peacocks sing day and night, hearing the thunder in the clouds.
Whatever the deer, the fish and the birds sing,
they chant to the Lord, and no other. 1265m3L16

In the visible world living beings, plants, mountains, moon, sun, and stars etc. speak the language of ‘spontaneous sound-current’ or the language of silence all the time, at every place

in the form of music
in the form of the Word
in the form of sound vibration.
L6.3

3.1 In each and every heart the Music of the Lord’s Flute vibrates, night and day, with sublime love for the Shabad. 62 M1 L14

3.2 The unstruck sound current of the Shabad vibrates day and night.
The Gurmukh knows the state of the eternal, unchanging Lord God. 904 M1 L7

3.3 The unstruck sound current of the Shabad vibrates and resounds there, with the melody of the Guru’s Bani; one is easily, intuitively absorbed in the Lord. 1069 M4 L12

Melody, musical instrument, tune, rhythm is a attempt to manifest the reflection of that ‘limitless sound-current’ or the ‘Infinite Word’. Emanating from this ‘melody’ are emotions of relish and blissfullness, which only the rare one can ‘discover’ and enjoy through intuition.

3.4 In each and every heart the Music of the Lord’s Flute vibrates, night and day, with sublime love for the Shabad.
Only those few who become Gurmukh understand this by instructing their minds. 62 M1 L14

3.5 The divine crystalline harmonies, their consorts, and their celestial families —
from them, the essence of Ambrosial Nectar is produced.
O Nanak, this is the wealth and property of the Creator Lord.
If only this essential reality were understood! 351 M1L11

On hearing only the external notes of melody most of us tend to say ‘wow-wow’. Only a few have the awareness of the ‘essence of melody’. Not every ‘Dick, Tom or Harry’ has the ability to capture this ‘essence of melody’.

3.6 Wherever there is speech, there are letters.
Where there is no speech, there, the mind rests on nothing.
He is in both speech and silence.
No one can know Him as He is. 340Bh.Kabir L5

This is a story that dates back to more than 60 years. In 1930 we went to see a ‘silent movie’. There were to elderly relations with us. One of them was about 80 years old.

Before the film someone was playing a melody on the piano. The elderly gentleman’s fingers began to move. Slowly the body began to sway. Absorbed in the melody he got up from his chair and began to dance and

L6.4

in this state of ecstasy he continued to dance for a long time. When the melody stopped he embraced the pianist in emotional excitement.

All those who witnessed this were absolutely amazed. The sublime notes of the melody were beyond the understanding of most of the people. Instead of listening to the melody, they were seeing the old man and enjoying themselves. But the melody went and excited the internal chords of the old man, and awaken the internal ‘dormant melody’.

All of us are ignorant of the pure ‘essence’ of melody. Amongst us there was this one and only elderly man whose consciousness captured the profound ‘essence of melody’ and enjoyed its blissful effect.

In fact, melody does not come within the ambit (circumference) of intelligence. This thing is beyond the grasp of the intelligence. It is a very subtle element. It can only be understood, grasped and enjoyed by one who has developed his ‘intuitional consciousness’. Others can only mentally enjoy the external effect of the notes, rhythm and beat when they hear it. It is not within our means to be able to reach out to the ‘pure essence’ and discover the essence. This is the priceless gift of the ‘spiritual world or the ‘intuitional realm’. It is for this reason the Satgurus have uttered the ‘Spiritual Bani’ in melody form. Melody is the secret and ‘silent language’ of the divine realm. No matter what form it is, melody has the power of attraction and attachment over the consciousness of each one of us. Let alone humans, its effect has also been seen over animals and birds.

In reality, ordinary people like us listen to and enjoy melody. This is only the tiny reflection and the external manifestation of the ‘Divine Music’. The manifestation of the subtle ‘Divine Music’ cannot be enjoyed by the gross minded (uncultivated) human beings.

4.1 The most worthy beings sing God’s Praises in beautiful harmonies, in all sorts of ways, in myriads of sublime forms. 1272 M5L5

The essence of melody or ‘infinite sound current’ cannot be grasped by our gross (uncultivated) consciousness. To grasp a subtle (fine) thing you need subtle consciousness or ‘intuition’. The ability to comprehend the notes, rhythm and beat of external melody also varies from person to person. Generally, melody sounds peaceful and beautiful to everyone’s ears and exerts a pull. Shakespeare even went so far as to say that

L6.5

those people who have no ear for music deserve to be hung.

The revered Gurus have used ‘ragaas’ to sing Gurbani, principally to allow the spiritual arrows of Gurbani to have a deeper effect on the mind that has turned sublime. In this way the satgurus have lifted the ‘raagaas’ from the level of mental amusement and used them to sing divine attributes and entered Gurbani into Sri Guru Granth Sahib and gave it the ‘hue of divinity’.

It is important to clarify here that the ‘infinite sound current’ of the Creator’s divine love in intertwined with Gurbani and the melody of ragaas too is the means of manifesting this ‘infinite sound current.

In this way which ever emotion is the mainstay in a Gurbani shabad, the melody of raag will amplify it and make it more intense and sharp thereby softening our irreversible and stubborn mind and making it swim in the ocean of that emotion and enjoy spiritual bliss and experience the flashes of the ‘Infinite Sound Current’.

Gurbani quotation that appear below make this view all the more clearer.

5.1 Among the ragas, Siree Raag is the best, if it inspires you to enshrine love for the True Lord. 83 M4L3

5.2 Gauree Raga is auspicious, if, through it, one comes to think of his Lord and Master. 311 M3L12

5.3 Be happy and sing in Bilaaval, when the Naam, the Name of the Lord, is in your mouth. 849M4 L3

5.4 In Raamkalee, I have enshrined the Lord in my mind; thus I have been embellished. 950 M3L2

5.5 Among the ragas, Kaydaaraa Raga is known as good, O Siblings of Destiny, if through it, one comes to love the Word of the Shabad, 1087M4L6

5.6 Malaar is a calming and soothing raga; meditating on the Lord brings peace and tranquility. 1283M4L4

5.7 Those Gurmukhs who sing in the Raga of Malaar — their minds and bodies become cool and calm. 1285M3L16

5.8 In Dhanaasaree, the soul-bride is known to be wealthy, O Siblings of Destiny, when she works for the True Guru. 1419M1L5

L6.6

6.1 In Raga Sorat’h, drink in this sublime essence, which never loses its taste. O Nanak, singing the Glorious Praises of the Lord’s Name, one’s reputation is immaculate in the Court of the Lord. 1425M5L7

The external music-melody, being the reflection of the ‘Eternal Sound Current’ or the ‘Spontaneous-Sound Current’ has also been praised by Guru Ji along side with the praise and glory of the Formless One.

6.2 Blessed are those beautiful Ragas which, when chanted, quench all thirst. Blessed are those beautiful people who, as Gurmukh, chant the Name of the Lord. 958M5L6

6.3 O Nanak, the immaculate sound current of the Naad, and the Music of the Shabad resound; one merges into the True Name of the Lord. 1038M1L12

6.4 Among all Ragas, that one is sublime, O Siblings of Destiny, by which the Lord comes to abide in the mind. Those Ragas which are in the Sound-current of the Naad are totally true; their value cannot be expressed. Those Ragas which are not in the Sound-current of the Naad — by these, the Lord’s Will cannot be understood. 1423M4L17

The Satgurus have used ‘ragaas’ to sing the Divine Virtues, but nowadays diametrically opposed to this, when making a ‘show’ of raag knowledge, the Divine Gurbani is used thus belittling Gurbani.

6.5 Some sing of the Lord, through musical Ragas and the sound current of the Naad, through the Vedas, and in so many ways. But the Lord, Har, Har, is not pleased by these, O Lord King.
Those who are filled with fraud and corruption within — what good does it do for them to cry out? 450M4L12

6.6 Loving devotional worship does not enter into your heart; pampering and adorning your body, you must still give it up.
You sit and play music, but you are still a hypocrite; what do you expect to receive from the Lord? 654 Bh.Kabir L18

6.7 The various songs, tunes and rhythms are false. Trapped by the three qualities, people come and go, far from the Lord. In duality, the pain of their evil-mindedness does not leave them. But the Gurmukh is emancipated by taking the medicine, and singing the Glorious Praises of the Lord. 832M1L5

6.8 In the love of duality, the happiness of Bilaaval does not come; the self- willed manmukh finds no place of rest.
Through hypocrisy, devotional worship does not come, and the Supreme Lord God is not found. 849M3L11
L6.7

7.1 In music and song, the mind is caught by the love of duality. Filled with deception deep within, one suffers in terrible pain. Meeting with the True Guru, one is blessed with clear understanding, and remains lovingly attuned to the True Name. 1342M1L8

Music, melody - being a reflection of the ‘Infinite -Sound Current’ is a symbol and manifestation of the all powerful Shabad or Word. For example Taansen by the power of music was able to soften stone and pierce a spear into it and making rain fall or starting a fire are also the miracles of this music-power.

The sublime form of music is created from musical instruments, but the subtle forms of the musical instruments are the vibrations of the wires and these vibrations, through tune, melody, beat are the manifestation of the internal wave forms and emotions. These ‘jingling’ vibrations or emotions are the sublime forms of the ‘internal language’ and the subtle forms of the external language.

For example the language that is cut out on the gramophone record is called the vibration or quiver. This language that is cut out on the gramophone record is the subtle form of the ‘internal jingling’.

According to the Gurbani quotation ‘God is True, His Name is True and those who repeat His Name lovingly are also True’, the Infinite Lord’s language is an unfathomable language of love and this silent, invisible, subtle language continuously and constantly fills the whole creation and like the ‘infinite sound current’ it thunders in multifarious emotions, forms, thoughts, vibrations and waves.

7.2 God is present at every place on every side and in every corner and His universal love exists everywhere.Jaap P10 L80

This ‘silent language’ of divine love is the one which is referred to as ‘infinite word’ or ‘infinite sound current’ in Gurbani.

7.3 Chant the unchanted Chant of the Naam with your mouth. 840M1L10

7.4 Spontaneously, the Unstruck Melody of the Sound-current resounds within me. Spontaneously, the Lord of the Universe has revealed Himself to me. 1157M5L11

7.5 It does not forget the Chant which is chanted without chanting; it is immersed in the Primal Lord God of the ages. 1291M1L4

7.6 Receiving the Gurmantar from the Guru (the seeker) silently drinks from the vessel of loveV.Bh.G.4/17

L6.8

The virtue of this ‘silent language ‘ of love is that by talking with the emotion filled
‘tongue of consciousness’, the seeker neither tires not is ever satiated (satisfied). As he continues to speak this language he becomes all the more intoxicated and takes on the ‘form of wondrousness’ or ‘bliss’. He loses total awareness of his surroundings.

The ‘language’ of the sun is its ray. Through these rays we receive the sunlight. In this ‘sunlight’ are present all the virtues (attributes) of its source, the sun, numerous virtues such as-

heat
illumination

purity

life-current

energy

etc. are ever present.

Exactly in the same way, within the ‘eternal sound current’, the ‘word’ language of the Supreme Lord, all the ‘spiritual’ virtues-

love
sweetness
relish
intoxication
ecstasy
delight
bliss
tranquillity
knowledge
engrossment
freshness

are interwoven.

It is necessary to clarify this point here that ‘Eternal sound current’ or the divine

L6.9

‘language of silence’, like its source, the Creator is

invisible
subtle
constant
unchanging
beyond words
beyond mind and intelligence
beyond the three attributes
spontaneous
devoid of sound

and it
in the form of vibrations
in the form of emotions
in the form of love for the inner self
in the form of ripples
in the form of jitters
in the form of waves
in the form of jingling

is present ceaselessly in the whole creation.

It is only through our mental and subtle spiritual ‘absorbing power’ that we can absorb the divine ‘infinite sound current’ and experience joy.

Just as light and sound waves can reach enormous distances at great speed, in the same way the flow of divine ‘sound currents’ too appear in the universe at great speed.

To listen to, and be aware of this ‘infinite sound current’, the seeker will have to rise above the mundane worldly realm and fine tune or harmonise the waves of his hearts desires with the vibrations of the ‘divine sound current’.

The mind can only be engrossed in the ‘divine sound current’ if its attention can rise above the ‘nine outlets’ and get to reside at the ‘tenth doorway’.

L6.10

10.1 Beyond the nine gates, the Tenth Gate is found, and liberation is obtained. The Unstruck Melody of the Shabad vibrates.110 M3L5

10.2 Those who close off the nine gates, and restrain the wandering mind, come to dwell in the Home of the Tenth Gate. 123 M3L13

10.3 Seeing the nine openings of the body, the soul-bride is led astray; she does not obtain that incomparable thing. Says Kabeer, the nine openings of the body are being plundered; rise up to the Tenth Gate, and discover the true essence. 339 KB.L13

10.4 I have now closed off the doors, and the unstruck celestial sound current resounds. 656Kb.L11

10.5 By practicing control over the nine gates, one attains perfect control over the Tenth Gate. There, the unstruck sound current of the absolute Lord vibrates and resounds. Behold the True Lord ever-present, and merge with Him. 943 m1L19

10.6 There are nine gates to the one city of the body; restrain your mind from escaping through them. When the knot of the three qualities is untied, then the Tenth Gate opens up, and the mind is intoxicated, O Siblings of Destiny. 1123Bh.KabirL15

Therefore to be in tune with the ‘divine sound current’ that is present within (us) and the whole universe, doing

jaap (meditation)
simran
kirtan
contemplation on the Word (gurbani)
sadh-sangat (company of the holy)
devotion through love
sewa (selfless service)
is absolutely necessary.
10.7 Those who focus their consciousness on the Ambrosial Bani of the Word, hear the vibrations of the Ambrosial Word of the Shabad. 118M3 L19

10.8 There, the Unstruck Melody of the Shabad vibrates day and night. Through the Guru’s Teachings d is heard 124M3 L14

10.9 The unstruck melody resounds, and the instruments ever vibrate, singing the Bani of the True Guru. O Nanak, God the Great Giver has given me a gift; He has blended my light into the Light. 442M1L8

10.10 I have come to know the unstruck sound current and the Word of the Guru’s Shabad; I enjoy the sublime essence of the Lord, the Lord’s Name. 921 M3L19
L6.11

11.1 The unstruck sound current resounds and vibrates there. The Word of the Guru’s Shabad is heard. 954 M2L13

From the company of the holy (sadh-sangat) and gurbani one gets the encouragement to do Naam Simran and

11.2 Remembering God, the unstruck melody vibrates.263 M5 L14

one achieves this level. Then what is inside, and what is outside?

11.3 The Unstruck Melody constantly vibrates within; my mind is exalted and uplifted—I am lovingly absorbed in the Lord.91 M3L12

11.4 The skinless drum plays. Without the rainy season, the clouds shake with thunder. 657M3L10

11.5 In each and every home there is dancing, day and night; in each and every home, the bugles blow. 884M5L18

11.6 So play the harp which vibrates without being played, Yogi. 909 M3L6

So the ‘bliss filled’ encounter with the Infinite Lord takes place if the seeker listens to the ‘infinite sound current’- the ‘silent language’ of love.’

11.7 We meet with our Beloved, the Source of Joy, when we listen to the Word of the Guru’s Shabad. 17M1L19

11.8 The Unstruck Celestial Music vibrates for them at the Lord’s Door, and they are honored at the True Door. 42 M5 L3

11.9 Her glory and her wisdom are magnificent; her love for the Infinite Lord is True. 54 M1L9

11.10 The unstruck melody of the sound current resounds with the vibrations of the celestial instruments. 436m1L13

11.11 Waaho! Waaho! Hail! Hail! How wondrously he sings.
The Name of the Lord is pleasing to my mind. 478 Bh.Kab.L19

11.12 The sweet, melodious, unstruck sound current vibrates continuously in the home of the fearless Lord. 1033 M1L19

11.13 O my mother,I am wonderstruck to see my Lord. My mind is enticed by the unstruck celestial melody; its flavor is amazing! 1226m5L17

L6.12

infinite word

love of the real self within

call of love

‘with God’s Name, is my conversation’

‘with the God’s Name my counsel’

silent love

can be heard through intuitional awareness and not through these physical ears.

12.1 The resonance of celestial strain, the deliberation of the essence and the saints discourse, are the daily routine of the place.783 m5

But many seekers close their ears with their fingers and regard the ‘shaa...shaa’ sound that emerges as the infinite sound current and remain intoxicated in this. This is their major doubt-fallacy.

It is important to mention here that in Gurbani the word ‘panch shabad’ has been used many many times. These words are used in a figurative form to explain the melodious sound or vibrations of divine bliss. Many seekers believe that ‘panch shabad’ refers to the hearing of the sounds of the five musical instruments in the subconscious. Several sects believe that the five word mantar is the ‘panch shabad”. In this way we get involved fruitless debates.

Bhai Gurdas has discerned very clearly that the devotee of the Naam focuses his attention on the shabad and instead of ‘five words’ or ‘five sounds’ he hears only the one word. Regarding the quarrels of raags and naads as fruitless activity, he remains engrossed in the ‘silent language’ of ‘God’s love’ or the ‘infinite word’.

12.2 (The seeker) receives the waheguru mantar from the Guru and in complete silence drinks from the container of love. V.Bh.G.4/17

L6.13

From the countless virtues of the Infinite Lord -

command
ceaseless word
ceaseless sound current
silent love
divine bliss
spiritual hue

etc. are the principal virtues.

From these, ‘silent love’, ‘love of the inner self’ or ‘love matter’ are superior virtues - that are present and diffused in all other godly virtues. That’s why God is referred to as ‘Cosmic Spirit of love’. It is clear from this that the rest of the godly virtues, like-

ceaseless melody
ceaseless word

ceaseless sound current
ceaseless jingling

melody sound current
word current

integrated melody sound
pure sound current

constant jingling
spontaneous sound current

etc. is the reflection of the language of ‘silent love’ or ‘love of the inner self’ that is taking place.

In other words within every wave, every musical note, every melody, every beat there is the ‘flow’ or reflection of divine hue.

L6.14

The essence of this essay can be summarised as follows -

- The Infinite Lord - the form is Love

- the world came into creation through the divine ‘Word-Command’

- this Word or Command is diffused into many forms, hues, waves and energy.

- the illumination of this command through the ‘unutterable language’ of

ceaseless music
ceaseless word
ceaseless sound current
ceaseless sound
ceaseless jingling

is manifesting and taking place via waves, vibrations, quivers and through the internal link of ‘silent love’is spreading its sweetness, bliss and spiritual faith.

- This whole ‘game of love’ emerged from the invisible divine world.

- The hidden ‘sound current’ of this ‘game of love’ is constant and present in the form of ceaseless, infinite sound current.

- This ‘unutterable language’ of the divine world is the one that is referred to as the
‘ceaseless sound current’.

- This music of ‘silent love’ fills us with divine emotions and leaves us in a
wondrous state.

- These ‘divine emotions’ are found in abundance in gurbani and the rags (musical
notes) too have the ability to manifest these emotions.

- That is why gurbani has been uttered in raags.

- When an emotion filled shabad is sung in the same or connected raags, the
emotions become all the more stronger

L6.15

and our incorrigible and stubborn mind melts and swimming in the realm of self love within, becomes the witness to the glimpses of the ‘incessant sound current’.

- when the vibrations or waves of this ‘incessant sound current’ manifest themselves externally then this ‘sound’ takes on the form of a ‘language’ and ‘letters’.

- These external vibrations and waves are given a variety of names under raag
melody. For example - ‘Siri Raag’, ‘Maaj Raag’, Gaurdee Raag’ etc.

- The general public more often is moved by the external melody of ‘toon-taan
(harmonium) and ‘daun-daun (tabla).

- This external melody is the reflection, symbol and manifestation of the internal
‘incessant sound current’.

- The real taste of raag melody is the play of ‘intuition’ (or insight).

- By hearing and enjoying the ‘incessant sound current’ through INSIGHT our mind experiences bliss and moves into a wondrous state.

15.1 The Deepest Samaadhi, and the unstruck sound current of the Naad are there. The wonder and marvel of it cannot be described. 293M5L17

15.2 Constantly listening to the Ambrosial Gurbani in the heart, it becomes pleasing to the mind. 366M4L12

15.3 The wondrous, amazing unstruck melody vibrates. 888M5L17

15.4 The Unstruck Sound-current of the Shabad, the Word of God, is wondrous and amazing! 1143M5L5

15.5 The fire within me is quenched; I am cool, calm and tranquil. Hearing the unstruck celestial melody, I am wonder-struck and amazed. 1217M5L1

15.6 O mother, I am wonder-struck, gazing upon the Lord. My mind is enticed by the unstruck celestial melody; its flavor is amazing! 1226 M5L17

then we will

from the ‘sha(n) sha(n) of the wind
from the silent depths of the night, etc.

16.1 Whatever they hear is the Naam, the Name of the Lord. Whatever they see is meditation. 236 M5L16

LEKH NUMBER-5(THIR GHAR BAI SO HAR JAN PYARE)

LEKH 5

1.1 Remain steady in the home of your own self, O beloved servant of the Lord. The True Guru shall resolve all your affairs. 201 M5 L6

The straight forward meanings of these lines are as follows -

Guru Ji is advising his gursikhs, God’s loved ones that you should place your mind into your ‘permanent home’ or ‘soul’ and remain seated, then the Satguru will take care of your needs.

This appears to be a very straight forward thing but hidden within it are some extremely profound divine ‘secrets’. Therefore to access into these hidden ‘divine secrets’, there is a dire need to deliberate very deeply into this.

The intrinsic meaning and the hidden secrets of the first three words ‘thir ghar baiso’ in the lines above are being discussed separately.

1. ‘Thir’ meaning stable - In this line, the word ‘stable’ is the adjective of the word ‘house’. It is clear from this that Gurbani is encouraging us that we should place our mind into such a house that is eternal, permanent, stable, immovable, constant and unchanging.

But according to our external intellectual knowledge we have presumed that the visible houses made of bricks, mud, cement, wood etc. is our only ‘personal home’ or ‘permanent home’.

These visible ‘houses’ forever keep changing and collapsing. Therefore these ruin prone houses, cannot be regarded as ‘stable houses’ or ‘personal houses’.

In contrast to this, the ‘stable house’ or ‘personal house’ of the divine world that is indicated in Gurbani as being

fixed
permanent
immovable
unchanging
eternal
cannot be destroyed

5.2

is an indication to a house that cannot be seen.

Therefore of

our assumed or ruin-prone visible ‘house’ and
the ‘stable house’ of the divine world

there is a need for comparative study, awareness and discernment. In this research for discernment Gurbani helps and guides us as follows-

2.1 That dwelling which you will have to abandon and vacate—you are attached to it in your mind.
And that place where you must go to dwell—you have no regard for it at all. 43M5L5

2.2 DADDA: This is not your true place; you must know where that place really is.
You shall come to realize the way to that place, through the Word of the Guru’s Shabad. 256 M5L5

2.3 How can you not die of shame, claiming, “This world is mine”?
At the very last moment, nothing is yours. 325 Bh.Kabir L12

2.4 The manmukhs are asleep in egotism and Maya.
They do not watch over their own homes, and are ruined in the end. 1049 M3L2

In total contrast to this, Gurbani has captured this beautiful picture of the ‘stable house’ or the ‘personal house’ as follows-

2.5 Nanak builds his house upon that site where there is no death, no birth, and no old age. 44 m5 L11

2.6. Call permanent only the One, who does not have destiny inscribed upon His Forehead.
The sky and the earth shall pass away; He alone is permanent. 64 m1 L10

2.7 1. Baygumpura, ‘the city without sorrow’, is the name of the town.
There is no suffering or anxiety there.
There are no troubles or taxes on commodities there.
There is no fear, blemish or downfall there.1
2. Now, I have found this most excellent city.
There is lasting peace and safety there, O Siblings of Destiny.1
3. God’s Kingdom is steady, stable and eternal.
There is no second or third status; all are equal there.
That city is populous and eternally famous.
Those who live there are wealthy and contented. 345 Bh.Ravidas L12.
5.3

4. They stroll about freely, just as they please.
They know the Mansion of the Lord’s Presence, and no one blocks their way.
Says Ravi Daas, the emancipated shoe-maker:
whoever is a citizen there, is a friend of mine. 345 Bh.Ravidas L12

3.2 Eternal and immovable is the City of God and Guru; chanting His Name, I have found peace. 783M5L1

3.3 Says Nanak, I have found the Lord with intuitive ease, within the home of my own heart. Devotional worship of the Lord is a treasure over-flowing. 1211 m5 L1
The ‘stable house’ of the divine world has been honoured in Gurbani through the use of many names, for example -

realm of Truth
doorway to the house
Abode of the Lord
permanent seat
ones own home
permanent abode of Truth
the country of intuition
house of Truth
place devoid of grief
residence of God
our own house
palace of peace
heavenly country
stable country
the realm of saints
house of spiritual calm
palace beyond ruins
etc.

3.4 In the realm of Truth, the Formless Lord abides. 8M1 L5

3.5 O Nanak, there is only the one door to His Home; there is no other place at all. 60 M1 L15

5.4

4.1 One who serves at the Door of the Imperceptible and Unfathomable Lord, obtains this eternal position. 79M5L16

4.2 Dwelling in the home of your own being within, you shall find the home of intuitive peace.
One who is imbued with the Lord’s sublime essence, is said to experience this peace. 227 m1L14

4.3 Through the Praises of the Lord, devotional worship, spiritual wisdom and the essence of reality,
Eternal bliss and the imperishable true place are obtained.
There, in the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, the Lord’s Glorious Praises are sung with love.
There, in the city of fearlessness, He dwells forever. 237 m5L13

4.4 O Nanak, the home of Truth is attained through the Shabad.
How can the Mansion of His Presence be known through duality? 243 mL L9
4.5 Baygumpura, ‘the city without sorrow’, is the name of the town.
There is no suffering or anxiety there. 345 Bh.Ravidas L12

4.6 Liberation and heaven are found in the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy; his humble servant finds the home of the Lord. 682 M5 L10

4.7 Within the home of your own self, why do you not enjoy the Love of your Lord? Your Husband Lord is so very near, O foolish bride; why do you search for Him outside? 722 M1L6

4.8 His Mansions are so comfortable, and His gates are so lofty.
Within them, His beloved devotees dwell. 739 m5 L13

4.9 The city of heaven is where the Saints dwell.
They enshrine the Lotus Feet of God within their hearts. 742 M5L12

4.10 Eternal and immovable is the City of God and Guru; chanting His Name, I have found peace. 783M5L1

4.11 The Realm of the Saints is the resting place of our Lord and Master. 1146m5L13
4.12 Says Nanak, I have found the Lord with intuitive ease, within the home of my own heart. Devotional worship of the Lord is a treasure over- flowing. 1211 m5 L1

Within these two ‘houses’ that is- ‘ruin prone visible house’ and ‘intuitional personal house’-, there is the utmost need for comparative study, belief and discernment

6.1 I searched throughout many realms, but I found the nine treasures within the body. 695 Bh.Pipa L14

6.2 Go begging in the village of the body, Yogi, and then, you shall obtain the Naam in your lap. 908 M3L15

6.3 One who searches the village of the body, through the Shabad, obtains the nine treasures of the Naam. 910 M3L11

6.4 My Creator Lord has formed this formation.
He has placed everything within this body. 1064 M3L17

To reside in divine world or the ‘world where there is no grief’ it is not necessary to discard the body made up the 5 elements - our worldly home because the country of the Formless Creator is extremely subtle. It cannot come into the grasp of the thinking process of our worldly intelligence.

It can only be discovered or recognised through ‘intuitional illumination’.

While living in this world, the bliss of the ‘invisible divine world’ can only be experienced and enjoyed through

interaction of the company of the holy or evolved ones
the light of Gurbani
the divine destination of the mind
being subservient to the Divine
the practice of the Naam
merging the attention into the Word
grace of the Guru.

To research and experience this ‘realm or world without grief’ , this personal or original house, Gurbani guides us as follows -

L5.7

7.1 The mind is attuned to the Word of the Shabad; It is lovingly attuned to the Lord. It abides within its own home, in harmony with the Lord’s Will.233m3L1

7.2 In the Company of the Holy, one attains the Mansion of the Lord’s Presence. 271 M5L15

7.3 Dwell upon the Lord’s Name in your heart.
O Nanak, thus you shall return to your home with honor. 283 M5L3

7.4 Without the True Word of the Shabad, the Mansion of the Lord’s Presence is not realized. 414 M1L18

7.10 By God’s Grace, I found the Sat Sangat, the True Congregation. I dwell in the home of my own inner being. 774 M4L19

7.11The Gurmukhs are imbued with the love of the Word of the Shabad. They abide in the home of their own being, singing the Glorious Praises of the Lord. 798 M3L6
7.12 Without loving devotion, you cannot dwell in your own home — listen, everyone! 689 M1L9

‘Baisaho’ (reside) - The restless mind can never remain still even for a moment. To still the mind there is a need for specific ‘point’ on which the mind can focus its attention.

According to Gurbani that point is ‘Gurmantar’ or ‘the Guru’sShabad)’.

For the ever restless mind

to focus on the ‘shabad’ or Word
to do the ‘Simran of the Naam’
to cultivate the practice of ‘mind -attention’

there us dire need for sustained perseverance and effort. For the practice of this Simran
L5.8

the guidance and help of the ‘sadh-sangat’ (the company of the holy) is absolutely necessary.
8.1 Join the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy; vibrate and meditate on the Jewel of the Naam. 12 M1L7

8.2 So meditate on the Name of the Lord; join and merge with the Sat Sangat, the True Congregation. 26 M3L16

8.3 In the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, I meditate on the Lord God. 18M5L9

8.4 The meditative remembrance of God is in the Company of the Holy. 262 M5L16

8.5 Serving the Saint, one meditates on the Naam. 265 M5 L7

8.6 O Nanak, joining the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, meditate on Him; without the Lord, there is no other at all. 405 M5 L6

8.7 In the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, I contemplate the Name of the Lord, Har, Har. 717 M5L13

8.8 Meeting with the Holy Saints, meditate on the Name of the Lord. 804 M5L12

8.9 Worship and adore God in your mind and body; join the Company of the Holy.
817 M5L19
8.10 O Lord, let me join the Sat Sangat, the True Congregation; may the Name of the Lord God abide in my mind. 1417 M3L16

Being with the ‘company of the holy’, through continuous, uninterrupted simran, the Guru’s Word will penetrate-permeate-diffuse into the mind-body-heart-subconscious and gets absorbed into every fiber of the hair (on our body).
8.11 In the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, the True Name of the Lord comes to dwell in the mind. 51 M5L6

8.12 Joining the Sangat, the Holy Congregation, the Name comes to dwell in the mind. 95 M4L19

8.13Join the Society of the Holy Saints, and be absorbed in the Lord’s Name. 643 M3L6

8.14 In the Realm of the Saints, the Lord dwells in the mind. 1146 M5L7

In this way through the ‘relish of the Naam’ of the ‘heart-filled love’ divinity or being absorbed in Word-consciousness and experiencing ecstasy,

reflects the cultivation and guidance of

8.15Remain steady in the home of your own self, O beloved servant of the Lord. 201 M5 L6

Rare indeed are the gurmukhs, God’s slaves, beloveds who are engaged in the divine cultivation of the highest of the high, purest or pure. For this reason this advice ‘Remain steadfast in the home...’ is directed towards God’s beloved slaves.

8.16 In this age, salvation comes only from the Lord’s Name. How rare are those who contemplate the Word of the Guru’s Shabad. 160 M3L18
5.9

A baby is not aware of its own self. It spontaneously depends upon the parents for its existance. It has innocent faith and dependence on its parents.

According to the divine law, the responsibility of caring, upbringing and nurturing is placed on the parents.

The innocence and the spontaneous faith of the baby is ‘play’ of creation.

As the baby grows and starts to exert its own intelligence, it begins to interfere in the parental guardianship and management, and getting bound by the activity of its own intelligence, it divorces itself from the comfort and bliss of the warm bosom of ‘parental love’.

In the same way, when man by virtue of his his sharp knowledge and egotiscal intelligence turns his back to the spiritual comforts and divine guardianship and regards himself to the ‘creator and initiator’, then he divorces himself from the warm bosom of God,s divine love.

In the same way when ‘Guru orientated ones’ or ‘God’s beloved ones’ discard the mind polluted egotism’s stunts and schemes

or
cleverness
thinking and planning
mine-yours
knowledge
philosophies
why
what
how and its- fear
worry
apprehension

and like a small child, at the feet and presence of the Guru, in the warm bosom of love for the soul within or ‘dwelling within’ the ‘stable/permanent home’, attaches

L5.10

himself to the Word-Consciousness through uninterrupted simran - only then the blessings of the Satgur are acquired. These are stated in Gurbani as follows -

10.1 201

When ‘God’s slave’ resides like an innocent baby, in the divine realm of self love of the soul within, then the Satguru, with love, honours the guru orientated being as follows -

10.2 1102
10.3 1214

It is clear from this example of a baby that -

1. To to discard ego-ridden intelligence
2. To be protected from worry - anxiety- fear that results from intelligence
3. To acquire eternal, permanent comfort and salvation

L5.11

4. To reside in ‘ the stable house’ and be carefree and wothout worry
5. to make one self eligible for divine gifts and blessings
6. To clear the path for all our worldly and spiritual needs, it is essential for us , like a baby, to have full faith in the Eternal Being.

The feeling of His

being ever present
being nearer than the hand
keeping one at hand
rememberance
being forever blessful
being forever merciful
being the source of all comfort
being the destroyer of all suffering
not taking into account the short-comings
creating an opportunity for freedom / emancipation
being the treasure house of mercy
being the saviour of His worshippers
being the personality that emanates love
nurturing and caring
play of joy
showing of affection
being the mother and the father

is the baby-like permanent, spontaneous belief that must be present.

11.1 586

Without such an innocent, and strong faith it is impossible to reside in the ‘stable house’ and neither can our need be fulfilled. This is so because in the absence of thissupreme divine faith, our ego-ridden mind will continue to be driven by our intelligence and cunning and continue to remain divorced from the ‘divine mother’s love’ or affection and blessings.

If we are keen to regain the joy of the warm, comfort giving bosom of the Eternal Being, then we have to run our lives according to light of the Gurbani verses given below -

12.6 210
12.7 281
12.8 603
12.9 714
12.10 1182

But we are bound up by our habits, desires and under the strong influence of the our subconscious, we are so entangled, intoxicated and lost in the routine of our daily life, that the

thought
desire
joy
exiliration
effort

to come out of our previous life style does not ever come.
L5.13

Through numerous births, under the influence of the subconscious, we have done so much practice (or drilled ourselves) with past thoughts and desires, that caught up, entangled and absorbed in the vicious circle of the ego-ridden ‘fort of doubt’, we are simply wasting away our life.

13.1 Entangled and enmeshed in the love of false occupations, the whole world is perishing. 133 M5L18

Apart from the painful - vicious circle of the past thoughts, desires and habits - the presence of

lofty
good
beautiful
joyous
emancipating

divine life, we

are not even aware of it,
have absolutely no yearning for it,
have no need for it,

let alone making an effort ( to attain it).

We may be ‘groaning’ from the suffering of the ego ridden ‘life-style’ and at the same time

reading - teaching
listening - sermonizing
understanding - explaining
intellectualising
philosophizing
saying wow, wow
shaking the head
momentarily shedding tears of emotion
ritualizing
reading scriptures and worshipping
being virtuous

L5.14

about the beautiful and joyous divine aim of life, but we are not prepared to give up our old routine. This is the reason why, inspite of carrying out the religious deeds, we experience no ‘change’ whatsoever.

Wholly (I) accept the command by the selected,
But the routines remain totally unaffected.

This sums up our ludicrous or laughable ‘life-style’.

Now the question arises how can this ‘baby like’ innocent faith be developed?

Such divine ‘spontaneous-faith’ cannot be developed

through studying
through intellectual knowledge
through philosophy
through reading scriptures and worshipping
through rites and rituals
through yogic postures

from the outside, because the external intellectual desire, faith and belief is ‘limited by our meager wisdom and always keeps changing according to the hue of the mind.

In contrast to this, divine faith and belief

unknowingly
spontaneously
bursts forth and

appears from within - this is deep rooted and permanent. Such divine faith develops in the service and the company of

guru-orientated beloveds
the blessed evolved souls
the ones with divine life
God’s slaves

and can flourish..

14.1 In the Company of the Holy, God seems very sweet. 272 M5L5
5.15

15.1 In the Company of the Holy, one’s Dharmic faith is firmly established. 271 M5L16

15.2 In the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, faith wells up. Outwardly, and deep within, God’s Light is always radiant. 343 .Kab.L12

15.3 Serve the Saints with loving faith, and set aside your pride and stubbornness. 498 M5L15

15.4 Without the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, love for the Lord does not well up; without this love, Your devotional worship cannot be performed. 694 Bh.Rav.L12

15.5 But when he joins the Sat Sangat, the True Congregation, he is confirmed in his faith, and he is saved by the Name of the Lord. 981 M5L16
From the above lines it is apparent that in the creation there are separate and opposite worlds -

1. The ego-ridden world of intelligence - in which suffering, conflict, anxiety, worry and the fire of desire prevails.

2. The ‘own/internal house’ ‘griefless abode’ or the intuitional world in which prevails

eternal mercy
eternal comfort
eternal happiness
affection
love
relish
joy
naam
peace.

Man is faced with this important challenge - in which one of these two worlds is he prepared to reside and live. The decision of this choice depends on our desires, beliefs and ‘intuition’.
